
The 2009 Howell-Hughes Award winners were announced this week. Katie Goodson '10 was recognized for her research on
Jim Thorpe, the great Native American athlete, and Danyel Kahumoku '10 was honored for her thesis on
Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to Congress. Quyen Le '09 was also acknowledged for her junior year essays on the 1862
Battle of Shiloh and the 1968
Tet Offensive.

"These papers represent the level of excellence in research and writing which we hope to see our girls attain," said Broeck Oder, history teacher. "The history department takes great pride in their success!"
