Third graders enjoyed a field trip to
MBARI - the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in Moss Landing on January 6, 2010. Dr. Hans Jannasch, a well-versed and extremely engaging host, showed the class around their magnificent scientific laboratory. Afterwards, they boarded the Western Flyer, MBARI's research ship. Students learned how the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) explores the deep undersea canyons off the coast of Monterey Bay. They also observed modern equipment that has made numerous world-renowned discoveries and added so much to our knowledge of the oceans.
