Community Service

Community service is an integral part of our educational program. By introducing our youngest students to the joy of service to others, we extend their understanding of the concepts of caring, helping, and sharing beyond their classmates, families, and friends. We help them to realize that there are many people in their community and around the world, including other children, whom they do not know personally but who still need their help.

The entire Lower School, including Pre-Kindergarten, participates in one community service project each month. Pre-Kindergarten students have joined in such projects as Jump Rope for Heart to raise funds for the American Heart Association; food collection for the Monterey County Food Bank; and Operation Christmas Child to gather school supplies, toys, and hygiene items for shipment to children in war-torn countries overseas.

In addition, each Lower School class works on its own "project of passion" during the school year. Pre-Kindergarten's project is making place mats and tray favors for the elderly and infirm clients of Meals on Wheels.
