Our Classroom

Our bright and spacious Pre-Kindergarten classroom is a joyous place for the magic and wonder of learning to occur. It accommodates 24 students and three teachers. (Teacher:Student ratio = 1:8)

The classroom is organized into learning centers devoted to each of our curricular areas: reading and writing, mathematics, science, music, art, religion, computer, dramatic play, and outdoor play. A kitchen located in the Kindergarten classroom is available to us for cooking lessons. We also have an observation booth for parents and a fenced playground with safe, colorful, well-designed play structures.

We extend our students' learning and enjoyment beyond the classroom several times during the school year by taking them on special field trips. These may include visits to

• a Halloween "pumpkin patch"
• a farm to see animals, pick fruit, and enjoy a hayride
• the planetarium at Hartnell College in Salinas to learn about space, stars, and planets
• the Monterey Fire Department for lessons on fire safety
• Monterey County Airport to "fly" a small airplane (safely parked in the hangar!)
• the tide-pool touch tank at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
