Broadway Show Choir: Do you yearn to sing and dance on stage? This class gives you that opportunity! Favorite musical numbers from Broadway shows are sung and choreographed. There is an opportunity for solo singing and being a part of the creative choreographic process. This is a great class for students with singing talent who would like the chance to perform on stage.

Drawing Animals:  Have fun with artist Berit Andersen exploring color and composition while using your imagination. Working in the expressive medium of pastels, colored pencils, and markers, learn fundamental drawing skills and develop your own drawing ability by making fun animals, living things, and natural shapes. Create your own masterpieces to take home along with your new drawing and sketching skills!

Collage and Papier-Mache:  Ready to roll up your sleeves and let your creativity flow? Learn how to make two- and three-dimensional art using collage and papier-mache under the guidance of artist Karen Welch. Create imaginative, one-of-a-kind collages; construct incredible objects of art from papier-mache. We can’t wait to see where your imagination takes you!

Fun with Clay: Ready to get your hands on some clay? Learn the basics from potter K.C. Gonzales, from proper kneading techniques to the glazing process. Create a multitude of functional and fun pieces - recent projects have included piggy banks and animal sculptures. The class begins with simpler projects, including pinch pots, and learning how to work with slabs and coils effectively. The end result is your own art pieces to proudly take home!

An Introduction to Black and White Photography: All you need is a 35-mm film camera, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Teacher Heather Dotto will show you how to develop film using your own enlarger in our darkroom and study the fundamentals of photo making as well as photo transfer techniques. In addition, the magic of trick photography and other photo secrets are explored. Please note: Must be at least 10 years old to take this class.

Digital Photography: Teacher Heather Dotto gives students the opportunity to take digital photos and learn how to creatively manipulate and modify them using Photoshop.

Drama Techniques and Improvisation: What does it take to act? Body exercises, games, voice projection, and improvisation are used to challenge the imagination and focus observation. Taught by experienced actor and director Anne Marie Hunter, this class is a young actor’s best choice!

Cooking Basics: We provide the apron and the campers provide the enthusiasm! Experienced chef Kay Covert teaches basic food preparation, baking, and cooking skills. Students say that the best part of this class is eating their creations, and those of us lucky enough to try samples agree!

Young Writers: This creative writing class is designed with visual and dramatic components to keep active minds stimulated. Students may be asked to write a dramatic scene or commercial for a product they design themselves, and then act it out with the help of other students. Students will write “jumble” stories featuring comic characters and crazy situations drawn from a hat. Other topics include writing “recipes” for magic potions or the ideal candy bar, as well as learning to write haiku and acrostic poetry. Nancy Hunt, an engaging and innovative English instructor at Santa Catalina School, teaches this class.

Jazz Dance: Jump into jazz! Come learn the basics of jazz dance from teachers Kristine Tarozzi and Monica Ringer, including leaps, turns, and a whole lot of moving around. Perfect for anyone who likes music, from beginner to experienced dancer. Students learn a complete dance that will be performed on stage.

Yoga: Would you like to learn techniques that can help you develop a strong and healthy body, relax and cope with stress in your life, increase your concentration and attention span, give you greater self-confidence, and have fun – all at the same time? Whether you already practice yoga or are yearning to find out what it is all about, this class is the perfect choice. Yoga is a method of exercising your body, mind, and soul. You will learn breathing techniques and practice poses that can help you achieve a life-long foundation of well-being.
