At the heart of our camp, our two staffs: teachers and counselors.

Another unique aspect of Summer at Santa Catalina is the careful guidance provided by both teachers and counselors. During their weekday classes, girls learn from experienced teachers who are well trained in their respective disciplines. Each teacher designs a curriculum that is engaging and creative and that allows campers to learn new skills and work toward specific goals. Many of our teachers return year after year because of their love of teaching, their passion for their subjects, and their desire to work with our campers. Some of our teachers also are members of the Upper School faculty at Santa Catalina School and can offer girls insights about their future education.

Our counselors, all college-age women, are dedicated to mentoring our campers. While each brings her unique talents and strengths to camp, they all share a love of children and a desire to connect in meaningful ways with girls, providing them with support and encouragement. For campers, counselors are both friends and big sisters. They live with campers in the dormitories and oversee the girls' daily schedules. They also assist with activities in the evenings, and on weekends. Through all-camp and small-group activities, as well as during innumerable teachable moments throughout the day, campers and counselors form lasting bonds. Campers reap the rewards afforded by having both teachers and counselors to guide their summer experience. Campers clearly benefit from both structured classroom learning and their less-structured time with counselors-still rich with learning and growing opportunities.
