After School

Student life after the school day is varied and fun. Students disperse to sports teams, community service sites, physical education classes,  theatre/music/dance rehearsals, or maybe downtown to the Farmer's Market.

Community Service is a big part of afternoon activities at Santa Catalina School. Each year several organizations around the county are chosen as student community service sites. Students visit these sites two afternoons per week, in groups of two to six people, depending on the job assigned. See Community Service for more information.

Santa Catalina participates in CCS (Central Coast Section) interscholastic events in the following sports: basketball, golf, cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, softball, equestrian team, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and track and field. In the 2006-2007 school year, Catalina brought home MTAL (Mission Trails Athletic League) championships in basketball, soccer, water polo, and swimming/diving. The Golf team earned the TCAL League Championship, the CCS Championship, placed fifth in the State Championship, and was ranked third in the state.

Theatre productions get underway quickly at school, with fall and spring musicals, and the mid-winter play. Productions over the past few years have included Annie, The Sound of Music, Anne of Green Gables, and Once on an Island. Production year 2007-2008 will see the musicals The Music Man, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and the drama The Miracle Worker come to the stage. Student performers and tech crews create these productions in Santa Catalina's state-of-the-art, 500-seat, Sister Carlotta Performing Arts Center.

There are also fun activities taking place off school grounds.  Area beaches and parks provide recreation trails close to school for running, biking, or just taking a walk.  Local communities hold Farmer's Markets within walking distance from school, and the Monterey downtown area, as well as the local mall, is a short  distance away.
