Performing Arts

Theatre
Theater, dance, vocal and instrumental music are art forms of social communication. Four levels of drama classes offer an extensive study of theater and its literature, acting, observation and presentation. We aim to encourage in each student the confidence and ability to transform observation, sensitivity, and imagination into believable stage characters through monologues, scene work, and experience designing and directing sound, set and lighting. In addition to curricular offerings, Santa Catalina students perform two musical productions and one drama each year. These shows have brought a reputation for excellence to our actors and our performing arts program.

Dance
Dance courses at Santa Catalina offer students the opportunity to use and understand movement as a form of expression. Ballet, tap and jazz are taught as art that demands interpretation, creativity and discipline. Students may participate in dance exercises that improve movement and enhance awareness. They receive individual attention as they learn and practice technique.

Music

Music is a dynamic vehicle of self-expression. We structure the learning experiences at Santa Catalina to support the student's creative processes while providing foundations of knowledge and methods of learning upon which she can continue to build throughout her life. Instruction in private instrumental and vocal venues, practice and performance within choral and ensemble groups and the study of music theory are viewed as opportunities to develop and encourage potential and musical talents.
