Compass

We know that a student's basic character defines not only who they are but also the quality of their future.

The character development program, Compass, has been set in place to ensure that the cornerstones of good character are created in each child from the beginning.

In our classrooms, on the athletic field, and in the hallways, students learn to work and play cooperatively, to find joy in success, to heed the messages of their mistakes, and to value their inner selves through attention to their moral and spiritual lives.

Students participate in community service activities every month. They are taught to look beyond themselves and become sensitive to the needs of those around them. Service opportunities range from work with local organizations that help the hungry to educational projects around the globe.

Another element of Compass is leadership development. Students will have the chance to stretch themselves during the course of each year through leadership opportunities in the classroom, on the playground and athletic field, and during off-campus activities like field trips and team building programs.

There is an intangible quality to students who attend Santa Catalina Lower School. Whether it is confidence, intelligence, grace, or integrity, there is something about our students that is truly distinctive, and much of it is connected to their character.

Through recent Lower School student efforts, 200 foster children received Christmas gifts; 63 families were served dinners; over 1,000 books were donated; food banks received 13 bins of canned goods and more than $15,000 went to charities.
