COOKING
Cordon Catalina NEW!
Strolling through our beautiful garden and selecting the freshest
ingredients, campers will nibble on the juiciest strawberries. This
basic cooking class teaches the tools, tricks, and techniques to make
tasty, fresh, and fun dishes. The girls find out what is in the garden,
how it tastes, the best way to cook it up, and how to serve it
magically to friends and family.
CREATIVE WRITING
Young Writers
This class is designed to engage the creative spirit and active minds
of emerging authors. Students will create a portfolio of work from
advertising to story telling, and reporting to poetry. They will design
a product and write a commercial and perform it for the class. Use
teacher prompts to begin stories that jump-start the imagination. Write
a class wide “jumble story featuring crazy situations and unlikely
characters. The sky is the limit when campers work to polish their
voices and collaborate with others!
DANCE & YOGA
Jazz Dance
Jump into jazz! Learn the basics of jazz dance including leaps, turns,
and a whole lot of moving around. Perfect for anyone who likes music,
from beginner to experienced dancer. Students learn a complete dance
that will be performed on stage.
Yoga
Would your daughter like to learn techniques that can help her develop
a strong and healthy body, relax and cope with stress in her life,
increase her concentration and attention span, give her greater
self-confidence, and have fun – all at the same time? Whether she
already practices yoga or is yearning to find out what it is all about,
this class is the perfect choice. Yoga is a method of exercising the
body, mind, and soul. Students learn breathing techniques and practice
poses that can help them achieve a life-long foundation of well-being.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Introduction to Black and White Photography
Capture the world! All each girl needs is a 35-mm film camera,
curiosity, and a willingness to learn. This class shows campers how to
develop film using the enlarger in our dark room, and teach them the
fundamentals of photo making as well as photo transfer techniques.
Please note: Camper must be at least 10 years old to take this class.
Digital Photography
The sky is the limit! Students learn to take digital photos and how to
creatively manipulate and modify them. Students will learn to use Adobe
Photoshop™ and other exciting programs that take their photography to
the next step!
OUTDOOR EXPLORATION
Explorers Wonderland NEW!
The Monterey Peninsula is a place of natural wonder – a unique
assemblage of animals, plants, birds, and insects. Campers will visit
the beaches, rocky shore, valleys, and mountains to see how special
each is. Through nature journaling, sketching, collections and many
types of art projects, they will become familiar with and appreciate
the nature that surrounds them. Easy hikes take them to many special
places on the Peninsula. Classroom activities will include information
and activities guaranteed to develop a love for our fellow living
things. Each child will keep a nature journal, which will include
species checklists, sketches, creative writing, a plant collection, and
class projects.
THEATRE ARTS
Broadway Show Choir
Do you yearn to sing and dance on stage? This class provides that
opportunity! Favorite musical numbers from Broadway shows are sung and
choreographed. There is an opportunity for solo singing and being a
part of the creative choreographic process. This is a great class for
students with singing talent who would like the chance to perform on
stage.
Drama Techniques and Improvisation
What does it take to act? Body exercises, games, voice projection, and
improvisation are used to challenge the imagination and focus
observation. Taught by an experienced actor and theatrical performer,
this class is a young actor’s best choice!
VISUAL ARTS
Print Your World NEW!
Printmaking
with a twist! Use styrofoam, lino, potatoes and yes, even real fish, to
make amazing print objects fit for display. Interesting and strange
ways to make art that translates into beautiful fabrics, cards and
wrapping paper. Think Christmas and gifts for friends and family!
Cool Creative Clay
Ready
to get your hands on some clay? Create a multitude of functional and
fun pieces - recent projects have included banks and animal sculptures.
The class begins with simple projects. The end result is art pieces to
proudly take home!
Sketching NEW!
Ready,
set, learn how to capture the world around you and make memories! This
class uses an artist’s eye and our beautiful campus to create a sketch
book. Campers will draw and collect everything from dried flowers,
leaves, and grasses to create a 3-dimensional archive of their
findings. This is the meeting of fine arts and nature.
