12. It includes a letter from John J. Murphy, Ph.D., Head of Upper
School, upcoming calendar items, Santa Catalina Parent Association
information, recaps of academic and extracurricular activities, college-counseling updates, and other
news about Upper School student life.
Lamplighter is the Upper School student newspaper that publishes seven times a year. The student editors and writers report general school news as well as news from each class level. Covering local, national, and international news as it applies to students, Lamplighter publishes pieces in the following sections: opinion, science and technology, entertainment, sports, and humor. All students are invited to apply for staff editor, writer, photographer, and illustrator positions. There is a need for students with all kinds of talents and interests.
This annual student publication for literary work and the fine arts showcases the creative products of our students in grades 9 through 12. This high-quality magazine features original poems, short stories, photography, paintings, and more. The 2011 edition earned the rank of “Superior–Nominated for the Highest Award” by the National Council of Teachers of English for the state of California.
This semiannual magazine comes out in April and October and offers parents, alumnae, faculty, past parents, and other friends a look into the spirited community of Santa Catalina. Regular items include a letter from the Head of School, Sister Claire; feature articles; academic, student life and athletic updates; alumnae news; and alumnae Class Notes.
