Santa Catalina School

September 27, 2018 | Alumnae Newsletter

Greetings from Gretchen

Dear Alumnae,

Welcome to a new school year at Santa Catalina! Your alma mater is always a joyous place to be, especially at the beginning of each school year. What are your favorite memories of coming back for another year at Santa Catalina? Share them in our alumnae Facebook group.

This year we welcomed Julie Lenherr Edson '88 as our new head of Upper School. Natalie Burke '99 and Frances Cook '99 have also come on board full time, Natalie in Upper School Student Services and Frances as a fourth-grade teaching assistant. We're excited to have them all back on campus!

We have 29 alumnae events in our various chapters around the world this year. Please make it a priority to attend an event in your area. These gatherings are opportunities for you to connect with alumnae of all ages in your community and celebrate your shared connection to Santa Catalina. We also ask you to invite a prospective family with a daughter who would benefit from a Santa Catalina education, as representatives from our Admission Office will be attending these events as well.

Reunion 2019 takes place March 22-24, celebrating classes that end in 4 and 9. We have plenty of information for you below.

Finally, the 2018-19 Santa Catalina Fund is off to the races. Our goal is to have 25 percent participation from our alumnae this fiscal year. Please make your gifts or pledges now. We are grateful for each and every gift.

Kind regards,

Gretchen Mueller Burke '83

Reunion 2019

Classes ending in 4 and 9 are celebrating their milestones on March 22-24, 2019. We are looking for reunion leadership in many of these classes; please contact the Alumnae Relations Office if you are interested.

We also need nominations for the Distinguished Alumna Award. The award is given annually to members of the Alumnae Association who are celebrating their reunion. The award presents a role model to alumnae and students by recognizing a woman who displays dedication and service in her volunteer or professional endeavors and who shows sustained interest in support of Santa Catalina and the Alumnae Association. Please submit your nominations by using the form found at the bottom of this page. All nominations are due by October 1.

In Memory

We fondly remember Barney Hulse, a member of the Santa Catalina community since 1989, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this month. Barney taught music lessons, was the music director for the musicals, and led chapel singing, among other roles during his time at Santa Catalina. He was always a welcome presence and touched the lives of many alumnae over the years. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carmel Valley on Saturday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m.

Giving

Class Agents make all the difference. Join us!

The Santa Catalina Fund relies on an active group of volunteers to help increase alumnae participation and fundraising success. We are so grateful for the time, talent, and hard work these alumnae share with us. If you would like to become involved you could:

  • Be a Class Agent. These volunteers perform a vital role by keeping classmates connected to school. They promote the importance of annual giving, and lead by example with their own gifts to the Santa Catalina Fund.
  • Be a Reunion Class Agent. These are alumnae representatives celebrating their Reunion who reach out to classmates to encourage increased participation in the Santa Catalina Fund in honor of Reunion.

To get more information about these positions, visit our Alumnae Volunteer site or contact Shannon Gaughf '08 at shannon.gaughf@santacatalina.org or 831.655.9391.
