Picture Day

Get those smiles ready! Picture days are coming on September 19-20. Here's what you need to know:

  • Individual School Pictures: Tuesday, September 19, at 8:15 a.m.
Students in PreK through Grade 7 may wear their uniforms or arrive in free dress. Those in free dress must change into their school uniforms after their photos are taken.
  • Grade 8 Individual Pictures: The individual picture for Grade 8 students is their official yearbook photo, and the following clothing is needed for this special picture:
    • Boys: Long-sleeved shirt with tie or sports coat/suit with dress shirt. The photo is from the waist up, so students may wear uniform trousers.
    • Girls: Dress, skirt, or top that is appropriate for the occasion. Consider church or fine-dining attire. Low necklines are not acceptable.
  • Class Pictures: Wednesday, September 20, at 8:15 a.m. All students must be in Chapel Dress for the class picture. Note: Boys and girls in grades 6-8 must wear the white button down shirt.

All students will change into their school uniforms after the individual photo shoot. If you have any questions, please call the Lower and Middle School Office at 831.655.9324.

Private Music Lessons

There is still time to sign up your child for private music lessons. Santa Catalina offers private instruction for children in grades 1-8 during the school day. Students receive 14 lessons per semester, and lessons can be scheduled during physical education, library (grades 1-3 only), or study hall (middle school only), or on a limited basis after school.

Students in grades 1-8 may choose to learn the following instruments (based on instrument suitability for the age of the child): piano, violin, viola, flute, percussion, guitar, bass (upright and electric), mandolin, ukulele, or cello. Voice lessons are available for students in grades 6-8. The cost is $700 per semester and is billed to you by the Business Office.

If you have questions, please contact Layne Littlepage in the Music Department at 655.9354 or layne.littlepage@santacatalina.org.

Santa Catalina Fund

Save the Date: October 2-November 10

Share One Word. Make One Gift.

This year's Santa Catalina Fund kicks off on Monday, October 2!

Can you describe what Santa Catalina School means to you in just one word? Often one word can tell a story. When you share your word and make your gift to the Santa Catalina Fund, your thoughtful participation has a direct and immediate impact on our students and faculty and makes a difference school-wide.

We aim to reach 100 percent parent participation by the conclusion of the Santa Catalina Fund drive on Friday, November 10. Last year, eight Lower and Middle School classes reached 100 percent participation. Within the next few weeks, you will receive your invitation to participate in this year's Santa Catalina Fund. With your gift, 100 percent in all classes is certainly possible!

Share One Word. Make One Gift. Thank you for your kind support!

Outside Opportunities

Orchestra in the Schools

Orchestra in the Schools is recruiting new members! This coming year will mark 30 years of providing after-school music instruction to any interested student on the Monterey Peninsula. Any student in grades 4-10 that is enrolled in a public, home, or independent school is invited to participate. Younger students will be considered at the artistic director's discretion. Local music professionals teach students an instrument in a small group setting in preparation for large group performances in December and May.
