Valerie Altamirano

Titles: Grade 1 Teacher
Degrees: B.A., Michigan State University

My favorite thing about teaching first grade is witnessing how much each student grows throughout the school year. Watching them develop into readers, writers, and mathematicians is simply amazing!

Mrs. Altamirano joined the grade 1 teaching team in 2018. After growing up in Michigan and living for a time in Oregon, she moved to Monterey to be closer to her brother and his family, teaching in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District before coming to Catalina. She has also worked as a Wilderness Youth Counselor, and was certified as a Wilderness First Responder and Swiftwater Rescue Technician—skills she enjoys keeping fresh for camping and other outdoor adventures. Indoors, she loves crafting and cooking. In addition to her bachelor's degree, she holds both Clear Multiple Subject and Education Specialist credentials along with a CLAD Certificate.
