Cougars kick off backpack service project for Salvation Army

Santa Catalina Lower and Middle School has kicked off a service project to provide backpacks and school supplies to homeless children in our community.

The project benefits families living in temporary housing provided by the Salvation Army.

The school raised nearly $600 through ice cream sales during the family picnic at the beginning of the year. The money is being used to purchase backpacks that will then be filled with school supplies. Students in each class will discuss the meaning of the project and decide which supplies to include.

There is nothing quite like a new batch of school supplies, and we are grateful to be able to pass on that feeling to other children in the community.
