Santa Catalina Lower and Middle School students came out on top at the Monterey Bay area Mathcounts competition.
Mathcounts is a national middle school mathematics competition that builds problem solving skills and fosters achievement through four levels of fun, in-person, "bee" style contests. In the chapter competition on February 3, Catalina students walked away with individual and team prizes.
The eighth grade team received a first place trophy in the Team Round and will be heading to the state competition in March.
Ethan, an eighth grader, placed first in the Sprint and Countdown rounds of the competition. David, in seventh grade, finished second in the Countdown Round.
A total of eight students in grades 6–8 participated in the chapter competition.
