Middle Schoolers hit the books for February reading challenge

Santa Catalina Middle School students spent more than 1,200 hours with a book (or several) during a February reading challenge.

In total, 72 students spent 73,767 minutes (1,229 hours) reading throughout the month. Seventh graders accounted for about half of that total, logging 37,046 minutes (617 hours). Individually, Zamina in grade 8 read the most of any student, clocking in with 5,914 minutes (98 hours).

Collectively, students could have spent their time watching the entire Harry Potter series 62 times. Instead, they dug into titles such as To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Atlas Six, Naruto, and The Hunger Games.

The top three readers in each grade, 6-8, were recognized at the Middle School Assembly on March 7.
