Two Santa Catalina fourth-graders are headed to the 35th Annual 4th and 5th Grade Spelling Bee hosted by the Lyceum of Monterey County.
Suhana Dail took first place and Jaiden Flanders placed second in the school competition on February 8. Jaiden fell short of the win when she misspelled "dissipate," and Suhana clinched it by correctly spelling "austere."
Fifth-graders Kevin Kavalauskas and Alex Peyton earned spots as the first and second alternates, respectively, for the countywide competition.
The Lyceum Spelling Bee will be held at San Benancio Middle School from 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24.
