The Lower and Middle School came together for the first time this year for the annual Flag Raising Ceremony on September 4.
The ceremony included speeches from Student Senate leaders (who were later sworn in), performances by the Glee Club and chamber musicians, and the raising of the American, California, and Catalina flags by the Color Guard. Head of Lower and Middle School Christy Pollacci spoke about this year's theme of courage.
The day carried extra meaning because of the recent addition of a plaque at the flagpole honoring history teacher Margie Lotz, who retired last year after 38 years and long oversaw the flag ceremonies.
After the ceremony, families gathered together for a picnic on the front lawn.
