Four eighth-graders win regional Scholastic Art Awards

Four Santa Catalina Lower and Middle School eighth-graders won awards in the 2021 Scholastic Art Awards for the California Central Coast Region. They submitted works in the categories of photography, design, and film and animation.

Santa Catalina students won in three categories: Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention. Gold Key works automatically go on to national judging; winners will be announced March 15.

Alex received the Gold Key for his five-minute short film "Friends with Myself," which explores the experiences of a student at home during the pandemic. You can watch the film on Facebook.

Israa (design) and Grace (photography) earned Silver Keys, while Selin (photography) received Honorable Mention.

The California Central Coast Art Region is the largest and most competitive in the country, with 25 counties stretching from Monterey County in the south to Napa in the north and across the width of the state.

Congratulations to teacher Susan Kendall and our students!
