Our Campus

Santa Catalina Lower and Middle School students learn, play, and grow in the classrooms, on the athletic field, in the competition-size pool, and in the Rosary Chapel. Our 36-acre campus becomes a second home, and teachers and students feel like family.

E.L. Wiegand Amphitheatre
This beautiful outdoor venue is host to our beginning and end-of-year flag ceremonies, bake sales, and other special events, and is a great spot for students to gather before assemblies.

Lower and Middle School Compass
This compass, the symbol of our Compass program, is at the center of the amphitheatre. The four points of the compass reflect our school's mission—Excellence, Spirituality, Responsibility, and Service—with Veritas, our motto, as the needle.

Head of Santa Catalina Lower and Middle School Christy Pollacci speaks to a full Assembly Room.

Assembly Room
PreK-Grade 5 students and their families come together here every Friday for morning assembly. The Assembly Room, colorfully decorated with student artwork, is probably the busiest spot on campus. Middle School assemblies, class presentations, and dances are held here throughout the year.

PreK and Kindergarten Classroom
Drawing on the latest research into the ways physical environments support educational growth and development, the newly renovated PreK and Kindergarten classrooms feature open and moveable spaces with plenty of room for active learning and play.

PreK and Kindergarten Playground
PreK and Kindergarten have their own enclosed playground where they can climb, slide, ride bikes, run, jump rope, dig, and play imaginative games.

Lower School Playground
During breaks, before, or after school, Lower School students play foursquare and basketball, jump rope, and climb on their own jungle gym.

Grades 1-3 Classrooms
Our newly remodeled classrooms for grades 1-3 feature wide open spaces, natural light, desks that can easily be arranged into any configuration, chairs that let students get the wiggles out, and Promethean flat-panel screens that offer a wide range of educational apps.

Middle School Classroom
In Middle School the learning gets deep, and versatile classrooms create space for individual or group work and hands-on activities.

Lower School Library
The Lower School Library, affectionately known as The Treehouse, serves PreK-Grade 5. All students have a library period once a week, and every year, younger students look forward to Pajama Story Night.

Sister Mary Kieran Library
Middle School students share the Sister Mary Kieran Library with the Upper School. The library boasts more than 20,000 books and magazines, as well as spaces for individual and group study.

Art Room
The well-stocked art room inspires students to create works in a wide variety of media.

Music Room
Playing on more than 40 Orff instruments and singing a variety of styles, every student in Grades 1-8 participate in music. Students put on two concerts a year.

Lower School Science Room
Grades 1–5 have a dedicated room for science, where they can examine mealworms, experiment with pendulums, and study how plants grow.

Middle School Science Lab
Middle School science labs give students everything they need to study Earth science, life science, and physical science.

Creativity Lab
Catalina's makerspace is where students learn to bring their ideas to life, from sketch to computer design to prototype.

Bedford Gymnasium
The gym sees a lot of action, from P.E. classes and Middle School basketball and volleyball games, to pep rallies filled with relay games and Compass house cheer.

Aquatic Center
In our outdoor pool, students get swim lessons as part of P.E. class in the fall and spring, and sixth-graders test out the underwater robots they make in science class.

Athletic Field and Tennis Courts
Our athletics complex includes a field, track, and tennis courts. Middle School athletes compete in seven sports: soccer, volleyball, basketball, flag football, golf, tennis, and track and field.

Rosary Chapel
Santa Catalina is a Catholic school that is welcoming of all faiths. Once a month, Lower and Middle School students participate in Mass and Chapel Sing, often talking about current service learning projects. Other events that take place in the Rosary Chapel include Baccalaureate Mass for graduating eighth-graders and Compass Installation, where we induct incoming eighth-grade leaders.

Performing Arts Center
Students perform two concerts a year in this 500-seat theater. They also put on two special assemblies: one for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and one for Veterans Day. Students also get a chance to see three professional-quality plays put on by the Upper School.

Lower Terrace
The Lower Terrace is a large open space with artificial turf bordered by classrooms and the Lower School playground. In addition to being used during recess, the terrace is the site of the annual Compass Sorting ceremony and Grade 8 Graduation.

The Fountain
Students regularly pass by this fountain outside the Rosary Chapel as they walk from their classrooms to the dance studio, private music rooms, and the Performing Arts Center. It's the site of the beautiful May Procession honoring the Virgin Mary every year.
