Study Hall Stories: Mariah '25

Study Hall Stories: Mariah '25
By Sofia '25

Study Hall is the central gathering place for students at Santa Catalina School, where we gather for morning assemblies, relax or study between classes, and hang out with friends. In Study Hall Stories, we choose a random desk and interview that student on their favorite things about Catalina.

Mariah '25 is a junior boarder from Atlanta, Georgia, and some of her favorite things to do in her free time are go to the beach, take walks, and shop on the weekends.

Q: What is something about Catalina you did not expect to like as much as you do?
A: All the art programs they offer, specifically visual arts, are amazing. It's really cool how much freedom you get to have in your art. I'm taking 3-D Media right now, and it's a lot of hands-on work. We're going to start a sculpting project soon, which should be a lot of fun. My favorite project we've done is painting and self-portraits freshman year because we got to use an easel and I felt like a real artist.

Q: What is your favorite club at Catalina, and why?
A: My favorite club is BSU because it gives me a space to be myself, and we're always working on new and fun projects. For Black History Month, we make announcements in Study Hall about black musicians, artists, scientists, and role models, and I'm glad Catalina has clubs to offer like that.

Q: What would you add to the school uniform if you were in charge of it?
A: Although the uniforms we have now are cute, I think the option of having a dress would be nice too, like the ones they wear in the lower school. I also think we should be able to accessorize with our own scarves, bows, and socks.
