It is inspirational to experience those moments when a student says, ‘Oh, now I get it!’

Ms. Callagy has been with Santa Catalina since 2002, having made teaching her second career. She began her professional life as a computer programmer and analyst, working for the Franchise Tax Board and Blue Diamond Growers. Realizing a desire to work with children, she went back to school to obtain her teaching credential, and she taught at three other schools before finding her way to Catalina. Ms. Callagy is passionate about animal rescue, and heads the Middle School’s Voices for the Voiceless Animal Club. She has two lively little Chihuahua mixes at home, Bernie and Lucky, who keep her on her toes. The San Francisco native also enjoys the beach, Zumba, and reading, and can make an excellent espresso. As a learning specialist for grades 5-8, she supports students through structured learning. She also teaches SSAT Prep. She says, “It is very rewarding to work with groups of students for four consecutive years and witness the growth of each child.”
