The girls are the No. 1 reason I can’t wait to get into the studio. I’m always excited to see what they will discover through their art.

Ms. Avery, a painter, has taught visual arts for more than 20 years. Before coming to Catalina in 2013, she taught at independent schools in Oakland, Alexandria, Virginia, and her home state of New York. Among her accomplishments, she received a fellowship in 2012 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and had her work published in New American Paintings, Vol. 39. She enjoys movies, live music, the theater, and reading a good fiction novel. Her husband, Brad, is a senior art director with Autodesk in San Francisco, and their two children—daughter Audrey and son Henry—attend Santa Catalina Lower School. Their feisty Chihuahua mix, Watson, keeps them active. This year she is teaching Art 2, Digital Media, Studio Art, and AP Studio Art.
