A Santa Catalina School senior has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 1.5 million students enter the program each year by taking the PSAT. Emma ’24 was one of about 16,000 students who were selected as semifinalists, representing the top 1 percent of students who took the PSAT in fall 2022.
Emma had to fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist stage, including writing an essay and taking the SAT or ACT. About half of the finalists will win a scholarship. Winners are selected by a committee of college admission officers and high school counselors based on students’ abilities, skills, and accomplishments.
