Winter Sports Wrapup

The winter sports season came to an end last month with both our basketball and soccer teams winning the league team sportsmanship awards.

Catalina basketball showcased exceptional dedication and improvement. They embraced new roles, faced adversity with confidence, and continuously pushed themselves to be better. Their never-give-up attitude was on full display in some of the most unforgettable games of the season, including a dominant home-court, 41-21 win on Senior Night, a moment of pride and celebration for our graduating players.

Several players reached personal milestones, demonstrating their hard work and dedication to the sport. Each player scored at least once. Dina Ding ’26 had five doubles. Lydia Ostos ’28 was the second highest scoring player on the team and was selected to the Richard Chamberlin All-Sportsmanship Team. Lydia Derbin ’27 had the most steals, Luisa Perez Ruiz ’25 had the most assists, and Aimée Hoensbroech ’27 had the most defensive rebounds.

Beyond statistics, the players stepped up to every challenge, pushing themselves beyond limits and proving that success is measured not just by wins, but by perseverance and teamwork.

Catalina soccer wrapped up a competitive winter season with a 6-8-3 record, showcasing resilience and growth throughout the campaign. The Cougars notched impressive victories over Marina, Seaside, and Anzar, and capped the season with a hard-fought road win against King City in the finale.

Leading the charge offensively was Delilah Fujita ’26, who finished as the team’s top scorer with 13 goals, consistently finding the back of the net in key moments. Olivia DaSilva ’25 proved to be a playmaking force, leading the league with eight assists and earning First Team All-League honors for the fourth consecutive year. Delilah was also recognized with All-League honors for the third straight season, further solidifying her impact on the program.

While the team will return a solid foundation next year, they will deeply miss the contributions of their seven graduating seniors: Piper Butler, Olivia DaSilva, Allie Fieber, Aleasha Kalinski, Sofia McHugh, Luisa Tamayo de Saracho, and Sawyer Vogel. Their leadership, dedication, and talent have left a lasting mark on the program.
