In honor of her dedicated volunteer work, Mary Martha Waltz '60 will receive the Monterey Bay Aquarium's 2017 Lucile S. Packard Memorial Award on Saturday, May 13. The award honors those "whose dedication and service exemplify Mrs. Packard's lifelong commitment to volunteerism."
Waltz, a Carmel resident, has volunteered more than 6,000 hours at the aquarium over the past 14 years. She assists with many of its education programs and works behind the scenes with animal husbandry. "From scrubbing algae with tooth brushes (she brought her own from home) to feeding out buckets of brine shrimp and algae, Mary Martha does it all with a smile," said senior aquarist David Smith.
Waltz will receive the award at the aquarium's annual volunteer gala.
