Santa Catalina School has announced Dr. Barbara Ostos as its fifth Head of School. Her tenure will begin on July 1, 2022, following the retirement of current Head of School Meg Bradley.
Dr. Ostos was selected after a national and international search. In addition to her deep background in education and experience in independent school leadership, the Search Committee was drawn to her warmth, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with a variety of people from all of Santa Catalina's constituencies.
"From the first time I read Santa Catalina's mission, values, and history, I was drawn to the school," Dr. Ostos said. "The potential of Santa Catalina's unique identity as an outstanding independent school that can innovate in service of today's students while intentionally grounding them in the moral and spiritual history of the Catholic tradition is limitless. ...
"My family and I are thrilled to be joining the Santa Catalina School community."
After graduating cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in government, Dr. Ostos earned an M.A. in nonprofit leadership and management from the University of San Diego and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of California, San Diego. She will bring extensive experience as an educator to Santa Catalina. She has spent more than 20 years as a teacher, grade-level leader, dean of students, divisional principal, and most recently as Assistant Head of Catlin Gabel, a nationally recognized K-12 independent school in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Ostos and her husband, Carlos, have two children, Lydia (11) and Luke (5).
