Santa Catalina students join worldwide climate strike

Santa Catalina School students joined a climate strike in Monterey on September 20, adding their voices to millions of young people worldwide demanding their leaders take action on climate change.

Students joined their peers from other schools at Colton Hall in downtown Monterey. They carried signs with messages like "Save our environment" and "Denial is Deadly" and chanted slogans such as "Who's your mamma? Earth!" and "We're with Greta!"

Kiska '22 said she was inspired by Greta Thunberg, the Swedish environmental activist credited with sparking the youth climate movement. "I want to rally for a future we can survive through," Kiska said. "Without strikes like this, people in power will never listen."
