Swimmer Damiera Cruz '20 competed in the Speedo 2019 California/Nevada Sectionals before Christmas break. This national meet from USA Swimming took place December 13-16 in East Los Angeles.
Swimming with the Seaside Dolphins Aquatic Club of Monterey County, Damiera competed in the women's 4x100 freestyle relay, as well as time trials for the 50 and 100 freestyle—clocking a season-best time of 25.93 in the 50. She represented Santa Catalina School on the relay team alongside Quincy Key of York School, Katherine Drumright of Carmel High School, and Selly Diallo of Pacific Grove High School.
"Sectionals was fantastic! This was my first national level meet, and I could not have had a better experience," Damiera said. "I was able to race against some of the fastest swimmers in California and Nevada and experience a meet of this caliber."
Damiera said she is grateful for the school's support, especially as it related to her final exams; she had to rearrange two of them because of the timing of the meet. "I am eternally grateful to have had this experience and for the school's support," she said. "I am proud to have represented Santa Catalina at such a prestigious swim meet!"
