ESPN analyst Herm Edwards addressed a gym full of Santa Catalina School athletes and families for an inspirational event called Huddle Up With Herm.
Edwards, a former football coach and a Catalina parent and board member, asked students to reflect on what being an athlete means to them. Sports are more than just a physical activity, he said—they are about problem solving, leadership, teamwork, and learning how to commit to something bigger than yourself.
On the practical side, Edwards stressed the importance of practice, saying what you put in is what you get out of athletics. He encouraged students to play as many sports as possible; expanding your knowledge and skills will actually make you better at your favorite sport.
In the end, he had one simple message for students: You are good enough.
